Women of Luxembourg: voices, journeys, visions
Every year on 8th March, International Women's Day provides a special opportunity to pay tribute to those who, through their talent, courage or vision, have transformed and continue to transform our society. This day invites us to revisit the essential struggles fought by women throughout history, to celebrate their achievements of yesterday and today, but also to encourage those who are already shaping the future. This is a highlight that is in line with Luxembourg's commitments throughout the year.
On this occasion, we are offering a series of articles and interviews dedicated to remarkable women — some from Luxembourg, others from elsewhere but who have chosen Luxembourg as the place to develop their lives, careers or passions. Their backgrounds are diverse, their voices unique, their contributions essential.
Discover and celebrate the women who have shaped Luxembourg's past, who are shaping its present and who are imagining its future.
Spring is in the air
Spring is just around the corner. It's the perfect time to immerse yourself in nature and experience the renewal of the forests, the multicoloured flowering of plants, the awakening of hibernating animals and the return of migratory species. Cities are also blossoming, and the spring sunshine invites you to explore them on foot or by bike. Across the country, whatever your age fitness level, green spaces and outdoor activities await you.
Minett
In the south of Luxembourg, known as the Red Lands or the Minett, the region owes its name to the reddish color of its soil, linked to the presence of iron ore that dominates the landscape. It is an area deeply shaped by its rich steelmaking past.
Even today, many remnants remain visible in the landscape, turning the territory into a true open-air museum where nature has gradually reclaimed its rights. Former industrial wastelands have found new life as cultural spaces, urban neighborhoods, and educational sites.
As part of this dynamic renewal, the Minett has quite literally transformed from red land into a true land of science, becoming a major hub of innovation and research. Thanks to its varied landscape, the south also offers numerous opportunities for outdoor leisure activities. Popular festivals, music and art festivals, concerts, and exhibitions all contribute to the vibrant cultural life of the region.
