Have you recently arrived in the country and would like to have your studies or diplomas recognised in Luxembourg?  To gain access to certain training and professions in Luxembourg, it may be necessary to have your diploma(s) obtained abroad recognised or accredited.

In Luxembourg,  foreign certificates and diplomas, with the exception of certain Belgian and Dutch higher education diplomas, are not automatically recognised. The equivalence is recognised at the holder's request, subject to specific conditions.

If you have acquired knowledge and skills during your professional career or through training courses, during internships, in your leisure time or when carrying out voluntary work, it is possible to have these recognised officially by means of the validation of non-formal and informal learning (validation des acquis de l'expérience, VAE).

A) Continue your school career

In order to continue your school career in Luxembourg, you can have your level of study recognised by the  Department for the recognition of diplomas (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes) at the Ministry  of Education, Children and Youth (ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse).

B) Have your secondary studies recognised (baccalauréat / Matura type)

The Department for the recognition of diplomas (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes) at the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse) is also responsible for the recognition of secondary school leaving certificates and diplomas (general, technical and vocational).

C) Gain access to specific professions

Access to certain professions is subject to authorisation to practise (liberal, commercial and craft professions / health / socio-educational professions).

D) Have your higher education and/or university diploma approved

Enrolment of a diploma in the Register of Educational Qualifications

Entry in the  Register of qualifications  is the normal procedure for the academic recognition of a qualification (e.g. Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate) in Luxembourg and entitles the holder to bear a higher education qualification in public.

Official certification of higher education diplomas earned abroad is required for admittance to supplementary courses on Luxembourgish law and to gain access to certain legal professions.

E) Have your non-formal and informal learning validated (VAE)

VAE makes it possible to assess and recognise a wide variety of skills acquired throughout life in different contexts (education, work, leisure, etc.). with a view to gaining access to training, to shorten the training pathway in order to obtain a certificate, diploma or training qualification.
