Luxembourg City, a cosmopolitan capital at the heart of Europe, is a cultural crossroads with a vibrant blend of art, cinema, theatre and music. The city, which was European Capital of Culture in 1995 and 2007, has an outstanding cultural scene, including a wide range of museums, theatres and festivals. Prestigious institutions like Mudam, the Grand Théâtre and the Philharmonie have impressive line-ups of renowned international and local artists. Read on to find out more about some of the key figures involved in the sector in Luxembourg City and their personal cultural highlights.

Steph Meyers, Director of Rotondes

Since 2016, Steph Meyers has been the Director of Rotondes. He was previously in charge of exhibition programming at CarréRotondes, then at Rotondes.

In Luxembourg City, Steph takes full advantage of the vibrant cultural scene, regularly attending events at a variety of venues such as neimënster, the Philharmonie, den Atelier, Mudam and the Casino. He particularly enjoys the open-air concerts organised during the summer months by neimënster, den Atelier and De Gudde Wëllen.

In 2025, he is especially looking forward to LUGA – Luxembourg Urban Garden, a unique exhibition of urban gardens, temporary installations and agricultural projects in places that do not usually house cultural events. Steph finds it fascinating that LUGA is being held outside, in spaces around the city, in what is a new cultural format for Luxembourg.

At Rotondes, despite the ongoing construction work, events are still happening, either on site or at alternative venues. The "Congés annulés" festival will continue for as long as possible over the summer.

Nadine Clemens, General Coordinator of Design Luxembourg

Nadine Clemens has been General Coordinator of Design Luxembourg since October 2024. With a background in history of art, she previously worked in the communication and press departments at Mudam – The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg and at Casino Luxembourg – Forum d'art contemporain. It was here that she developed a passion for design, which led her to co-found the Design Friends association in 2009 to invite international designers to Luxembourg.

In Luxembourg City, Nadine likes going to the Lëtzebuerg City Museum, especially when it exhibits its impressive poster collection covering the entire 20th century, which offers a unique window onto Luxembourg's history, politics, tourism, trade and culture.

Every year, she eagerly awaits the Luxembourg City Film Festival. She is particularly fond of films aimed at children and young adults and is fascinated by the development of this niche at national and international level over the past 15 years – she often comes across real cinematic gems that are rarely shown in traditional cinemas.

Preparations for the Luxembourg Design Festival and the Design Awards are in full swing. The festival, which will run from 13 to 16 November 2025 in Luxembourg City, is set to be a wonderful celebration of design.

Luka Heindrichs, co-founder of De Gudde Wëllen and manager of Twist & Tweak

Since the launch of De Gudde Wëllen, Luka Heindrichs has also been closely involved in various associations. He manages Twist & Tweak, a cultural agency specialising in events organisation.

In Luxembourg City, Luka is a fan of Rotondes, which has a programme of events and concerts that reflect his tastes. He also enjoys a night out at den Atelier in Hollerich or the city's theatres. He especially appreciates small-scale events organised by independent companies or young ensembles.

His favourite summer event is the "Congés annulés" festival at Rotondes. These musical evenings throughout the month of August are exactly the kind of event he likes in terms of style and size. He likes being at the centre of the action.

This year, De Gudde Wëllen has a great line-up of events planned, but for those looking for something outside Luxembourg City Luka also recommends the USINA festival in Dudelange. And of course one of the highlights of the calendar is the "Fête de la Musique", celebrated in Luxembourg City.

This summer, don't miss Mikrokosmos, a new chapter for De Gudde Wëllen! In the lush green setting of the park in Luxembourg City, Mikrokosmos has been created as part of Luxembourg's LUGA urban garden festival. It will host a variety of open-air events and laid-back sessions for curious minds looking to enjoy park life in the city.

On the menu: music, nature, food and culture.
