Raising awareness of the population towards more environmentally friendly mobility has been strengthened during this atypical spring. In fact, the month of April 2020 broke all records in terms of the use of bikes: 2 to 5 times more compared to April 2019 and far more than in the 2019 summer months.
In this context, Luxembourg steps up its commitment to gentle mobility by encouraging residents and tourists to use bicycles. New cycle routes that can be discovered in August, luggage that awaits you at the hotel, free shuttles to transport bikes if you take the train and subsidies for the purchase of new cycles: here are the initiatives to follow if you'd definitely like to pedal this summer!
New cycle routes to be discovered in August
Luxembourg currently offers around 1,000km of national and regional cycle routes, which will be completed in August thanks to new secured paths that will only be for cyclists, residents and buses of the General Regional Transport Scheme (Régime général du transport routier - RGTR).
The Pontpierre-Leudelange itinerary gives a flavour of the Vëloexpresswee between Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg; the Alzingen-Syten, Syren-Moutfort and Obersyren-Mensdorf paths connect Luxembourg City to the Syre Valley, and then allow you to join the Moselle. Find out all about the new paths on the government's website.
Motorised traffic to tourist destinations and to hotels, restaurants and cafés is organized through local diversions set up by the National Roads Administration (Administration des ponts et chaussées).
A great opportunity to gently explore the Grand Duchy this summer! Without having to carry your luggage on your bike if you spend a night in commercial accommodation...
Move, we carry: bicycle touring made even easier
You've always wanted to go on a bike trip but never had the will or strength to take your luggage with you? No more excuses with the latest initiative: Move, we carry.
It is a service for individuals and travel professionals, allowing free luggage transport for all hikers or cyclists who wish to discover Luxembourg in stages. Removed after 10 a.m. in the morning and delivered before 4 p.m. at the latest the same day, from and to any paying accommodation located in the Grand Duchy, the luggage thus follows tourists at a distance when they go hiking or cycling.
Make your reservations online or by phone (+352 2810-888) and don't miss the information on the initiative's website.
