As in many European countries, a majority of public holidays in Luxembourg have their origins in Christian festivals. But did you know that Luxembourg is currently the only country to have declared Europe Day on 9th May a public holiday? Or that the Grand Duke's birthday, which is celebrated on 23rd June, actually is on 16th April? On this page, you'll find a complete list of all the public holidays in Luxembourg, for this and the next year.

The official public holidays are New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, 1st May (Labour Day), Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Europe Day, the Luxembourg National Day (public celebration of the Grand Duke’s birthday), Assumption, All Saints Day, Christmas Day and the second day of Christmas (Saint Etienne – Boxing Day).

Carnival Monday and Kermesse (Annual Summer Fair) Monday are customary holidays.

The list of holidays and school vacations can be viewed on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The list of bank holidays can be viewed on the website of the LFMA, the Luxembourg Fiancial Market Association.
