The end of year approaches fast and the days are much shorter now. However, the winter season is also one of lights and animations including a whole series of traditions and events.
Christmas, the religious festival celebrating the birth of Jesus, constitutes the high point of the end of year celebrations. However, the celebrations already start in the preceding weeks with many Christmas markets opening their doors around the first advent, together with festivals, parades, concerts and shows. Saint Nicolas gives you a foretaste of Christmas. Shops and private dwellings are decorated for the occasion, immersing the streets in a festive atmosphere.
On 31 December, the year ends with the New Year's Eve celebrations in families or among friends, with balls, fireworks and, often, the indispensable good resolutions.
