The Luxembourg art scene was inward-looking for a long time, but has become highly internationalised in recent years. New exhibition venues and museums opened in the 1990s and 2000s have been a great success with the public.
Events such as the 'Museum Night' have also helped to attract a large number of visitors to the museums.
On the international scene, the Grand Duchy has been participating in the Venice Biennale since 1988, with a pavilion in the 'Ca' del Duca' since 1999. Luxembourg artist Su-Mei Tse was awarded the Golden Lion in 2003 for the best national pavilion at the 50th Venice Biennale, thereby achieving considerable international recognition.
