Have you recently arrived in the Grand Duchy and would like to have your level of study and your diplomas recognised?
To gain access to specific training courses and professions in Luxembourg, it may be necessary to have approved or registered your higher education diploma obtained abroad.
Foreign certificates or diplomas are not automaticallyrecognised in Luxembourg. The equivalence is recognised at the holder's request, subject to specific conditions.
If you have acquired knowledge and skills during your professional career or through training courses, during internships, in your leisure time or when carrying out voluntary work, it is possible to have these recognised officially by means of the validation of non-formal and informal learning (validation des acquis de l'expérience, VAE).
A) Continue your school career
In order to continue your school career in Luxembourg, you can have your level of study recognised by the Department for the recognition of diplomas (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes) at the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse).
B) Have your secondary studies recognised (baccalauréat / Matura type)
The Department for the recognition of diplomas (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes) at the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse) is also responsible for the recognition of secondary school leaving certificates and diplomas (general, technical and vocational).
C) Gain access to specific professions
Your levels of studies, diplomas and/or professional qualifications obtained abroad need to be recognised as equivalent in order for you to be able to access specific professions (liberal professions, professions in the commercial and craft sector / healthcare professions / socio-educational professions).
The list of regulated professions is determined by the amended Law of 19 June 2009.

D) Have your higher education and/or university diploma approved
Higher education diplomas obtained abroad are recognised formally either by listing in the register of higher education titles, or by certification.
Listing of a diploma in the register of certificates
Listing in the register of higher education titles entitles holders to make public use of their higher education title and attests the duration of their studies and the value of their diplomas.
Official certification of higher education diplomas earned abroad is required for admittance to supplementary courses on Luxembourgish law and to gain access to certain legal professions.

E) Have your non-formal and informal learning validated (VAE)
The validation of non-formal and informal learning (VAE) can be used to assess and recognise a wide range of skills and experience acquired throughout a person's life in various contexts, such as in education, at work and during leisure time in order to embark on training courses, or to shorten the length of training required or obtain a title, certificate or diploma.
