08-baignadeThe 2019 bathing season has started! Since 1st May, outdoor swimming lovers, families keen on relaxing by a lake, children willing to have fun with water games and anyone else who wants to feel that summer is on the threshold can now swim in the lakes and ponds across the country.

Lakes and ponds available for bathing

The Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development recently announced the opening of surface waters available for bathing in the 2019 bathing season, i.e.:

During the season of 1st May to 30th September, the waters of each lake and pond will be assessed on a regular basis. The Administration of Water Management has rated the water quality as excellent at the start of this new season.

Water leisure activities for young and old alike

Even though some waters are only available for bathing, you can take part in all kinds of water sports in certain areas of lakes and ponds.

Weiswampach's leisure and holiday centre covers an area of 160 acres, with two 15-acre artificial lakes. The upper lake is only available for fishing  purposes, while the lower lake is a bathing lake where you can swim, kayak or surf. Pedalos are also available for rent.

The Upper Sûre Lake is 1 km West from Esch-sur-Sûre, in the middle of the Upper Sûre Nature Park. This 940-acre lake is a breathtaking recreational area. A wide range of water sports can be enjoyed outside of the protected area that is 5 km away from the main dam: swimming, canoeing, diving, windsurfing and sailing. For those who would rather relax, a solar-powered boat offers various tours.

The ponds and the large beach of the ‟Baggerweieren” in Remerschen are ideal if you want to unwind. Children can play in the extended pool and with the water games, while sports lovers can make the most of three beach volley-ball courts and a petanque ground. Stand up paddle boarding is also available!
