The Nomad Passport Index, devised to meet the needs of aspiring global citizens in an environment where mobility is increasingly important, looks at the passports of 199 countries. In its report for 2019, the Index ranks Luxembourg in first place for the second year running.

Scoring 100 points, Luxembourg is among the six world economies where women have the same rights as men

The report Women, Business and the Law 2019: a Decade of Reform released by the World Bank, assesses sexual discrimination in 187 economies over the past decade. Aim: to better understand the influence of legal discrimination between genders on women's choices in terms of employment and entrepreneurship. Scoring 100 points, Luxembourg was given the best rating available.

Population

The population of the Grand Duchy continues to grow

On 1 January 2019, there were 613 894 inhabitants, which is nearly 12 000 more than a year earlier.

Thanks to positive net migration (number of arrivals less number of departures) and natural balance (number of births less number of deaths) during 2018, the population of the Grand Duchy increased by 11,889, reaching the figure of 613,894 inhabitants on 1 January 2019.

Working hours in the Grand Duchy - attempts at conciliation

9 May has been declared an official holiday for everyone working in the Grand Duchy.

On 27 March the Chamber of Deputies unanimously voted to increase the statutory minimum number of days of paid annual leave from 25 to 26, and declared 9 May - Europe Day - an official holiday.

Media Education: Fighting Fake News

The European Week of Media Education is a new initiative of the European Commission to better understand the world of media and comprehend its societal challenges.

Strengthen the knowledge of the functioning of the media to know their impact on society. These were the goals of the European Week of Media Education. Various events on the subject of media literacy were organized throughout the European Union. The Grand Duchy also participated.
