About a hundred films will be presented during the 9th edition of the Luxembourg City Film Festival, to be held from 7 to 17 March 2019 at a dozen venues throughout the City, including cultural institutions such as the Casino, Neimënster, and the MUDAM.
In addition to these projections and the events organised around the Festival, ten films will compete in the official competition, plus six documentaries selected for the prize for that category, and the official selection of films not in the competition.
This year again the organisers are excited by the eclectic and varied programming , and invite cinema fans to come to meet some famous names in the audiovisual industry, including producers, actors, editors and festival directors from all over the world. The programme includes fiction work, documentaries, Luxembourgish productions, and films not seen before. At the same time the festivities will also include a series of activities connected with the cinema. No fewer than 225 events are to be organised throughout the Festival, including themed evenings, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts.
An increasingly popular festival
The Festival is now well-established and increases in popularity from year to year: it has become THE place to be for all the exceptional people it attracts. The record figure of about 30,500 visitors in 2018 confirms the position of the Luxembourg City Film Festival as a benchmark cinema event in the Grand Duchy's cultural diary.
At the last Festival, 192 showings were held in the Ciné Utopia and Kinepolis Kirchberg cinemas and at Luxembourg City's Cinematheque. The 2018 edition welcomed 262 international guests and professionals. Since the 2012 edition, the Festival has rewarded the best of international cinema for fiction (10,000 euros), documentaries (5,000 euros) and films for young audiences (2,000 euros).
