The company that manages the airport, Luxairport, has just announced record figures for 2018: 4.04 million passengers passed through the airport, compared with 3.6 million in 2017. The most popular destination is Oporto.
It's been one record year after another
Luxairport's recent figures confirm that Luxembourg-Findel airport is in line with the air traffic market, which has resumed growth despite the upward trend in fuel prices. After a record year in 2017, when the number of passengers increased by 19%, the airport topped 4 million passengers and is very close to joining the list of Europe's 100 busiest airports. Compared with 2017, the number of passengers has increased by 12%, which is well above the average growth of other European airports during the same period.
July was the busiest month, with 397,000 passengers.
The airport offers a range of 81 direct destinations, including a number of new connections: Bordeaux (France), Keflavik (Iceland) and Brac (Croatia) for regular flights, and Marrakesh (Morocco), Seville (Spain), Enfidha (Tunisia) and Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates) as seasonal destinations. The most popular airport is still Oporto, but London is still the destination that attracts the greatest number of passengers, counting the three airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and City. Other popular destinations are Lisbon, Munich and Frankfurt.
