InterNations, an International network of expats, has just published the 2018 edition of its well-known report entitled Expat Insider. More than 18,000 expats assessed different aspects of living in their host country: quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, family life, and personal finance & cost of living.
In global terms, Luxembourg has managed to maintain its successful position of recent years, ranking 15th in the listing. The list is headed by Bahrain (1st place), Taiwan (2nd place) and Ecuador (3rd place). Within the EU, Luxembourg ranks 4th, after Portugal, Spain and the Czech Republic.
The Grand Duchy in detail
In the five broad categories on which the general ranking in the Expat Insider 2018 report is based, Luxembourg achieves the following performance figures:
- Quality of life - 17th place
- Ease of settling in - 40th place
- Working abroad - 9th place
- Family life – 16th place
- Personal finance & cost of living – 23rd place
Luxembourg beats all the international competition in the 'safety & security' and 'job security' categories. Other strong points noted in the report include ease of registering on arrival in the country, opening a bank account, and understanding the healthcare system.
