Every year, the start of summer coincides with the launch of the Summer in the City festival. Organised by the LCTO (Luxembourg City Tourist Office), this year's festivities will take place from 21 June to 7 September. The programme includes concerts, music festivals, street entertainment, open-air screenings, markets, festivals, exhibitions and popular events. A host of activities for young and old alike will get Luxembourg City – and the surrounding area – buzzing for the next three months.
Summer in the City is an event that brings people together to enjoy all things cultural, with the aim of creating bonds between people from different walks of life. Most of the events are free.
This summer's highlights
World Music Day: 16 to 21 June 2017
This is a great opportunity to enjoy music from all over the world, with more than 20 stages set up in and around the city. The crowds that flock to this popular event (each year it attracts an average of 35,000 spectators) will be treated to a wide variety of music from different traditions.
Luxembourg National Day: 23 June 2017
This patriotic event has been going strong since 1961. Each year, festivities and firework displays are organised to help the people of Luxembourg celebrate their country!
The MeYouZik festival: 15 July 2017
This day-long festival takes place on three different open-air stages, in Place de la Constitution and Rue du Saint-Esprit and outside the Abbaye de Neumünster. The aim is to offer the people of Luxembourg a chance to hear new sounds from around the world.
The Streeta(rt)nimation festival: 11 and 12 August 2017
This event in the city centre is designed to give people of all ages an opportunity to experience a vast array of street entertainment. The talents of mime artists, jugglers and a wide range of performers are on display for all to admire as they take to the city's vast open-air stage.
The Schueberfouer: 23 August to 11 September 2017
The Schueberfouer speaks for itself! The country's famous annual fair, set up on the Glacis car park, will be back this year to bring the summer season to a joyous conclusion. The Schueberfouer offers 20 days of festivities, with rides, great food – including the inimitable Fouerfësch or fried fish –, sweet treats, the famous big wheel and a host of bargains to be had.
