The state's school and university restaurant service, Restopolis, organises a themed week on the topic of 'consume locally' in over 90 restaurants and canteens in Luxembourg from 16 until 20 January.
The event's objective is to raise the awareness of thousands of Restopolis customers (and others) to the challenges of consuming local produce and sustainable development.
For the occasion Restopolis want to be present in five high-schools in the Grand Duchy with information booths. For more information on the various activities taking place during the event, refer to the press kit.
Opting for local produce means ...
- protecting the environment through shorter transportation routes,
- a better nutritional quality and taste of foodstuffs through more freshness,
- identifying products because you know exactly where they come from,
- having faith in products through more direct contact with the producer,
- supporting the local economy,
- biodiversity: safeguarding the terroir's specificity.

The state's school catering service is a pioneer in the introduction of organic and local products into collective catering. Moreover, through this initiative, it has increased its customer base by 153% in 11 years!
Restopolis is constantly seeking excellence. Thus, the lasting welfare of humans, environmental protection, food optimisation and budget are all of great concern to the company. That's why 32% of total produce being processed in its restaurants hails from Luxembourg. However, if there are no local alternatives — i.e. for chocolate, bananas or coffee —, Restopolis opts for fair trade products.
