In summer, a number of towns offer open-air cinema to the public

10-cinema_hIn a number of towns, the central squares become open-air cinema venues during summer 2,016. This is the ideal opportunity to meet friends and have a drink under the Grand Duchy's star-studded sky, and to watch blockbusters or classics.

In Luxembourg City

Let's start with the capital, where the City Open Air Cinema, presented by the Luxembourg City Cinémathèque with the support of Utopia group, shows masterpieces on two sites from 22 July to 18 August 2016 on three sites.

  • In front of the impressive scenery of the grand ducal palace, official residence of the Grand Duke and picturesque building in the heart of the old city, the City Open Air Cinema offers classics like Grease, Star Wars Episode IV, When Harry Met Sally, Goldfinger or The Jungle Book.
  • In the courtyard of the Capuchin Theatre, you will be able to see the international blockbusters like Mad Max, The Pink Panther, Alien or the famous feature filmL'Ange Bleu with actress Marlene Dietrich.
  • In the Rotondes courtyard, movies such as Piranha, Moby Dick, Tarantula or Tarzan the Ape Man are being screened.

Entrance is free. In case of bad weather, screenings will be maintained and plastic capes are available.

Across the country

Tango Open Air Cinema will take place this year from July 15 to 23 in Echternach. This will be the 12th time the festival offers film showings for audiences of all ages under a starry sky near the lake in Echternach. On 9 days, you can see 9 films on a giant screen set against the charming backdrop of the lake. The programme includes international blockbusters such as the box office hits Star Wars 7X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day 2, Ice Age 5, or The Legend of Tarzan, a must for young and old! The screenings start around 8 p.m., special packages with deck chairs, beach chairs and VIP packages can be booked in advance. For more information, visit the website of the Ciné Sura.

From 21 July to 13 August 2016, Diekirch organises an Open Air Cinema. For two days, the basic school's courtyard behind the church is transformed into a theatre for outdoor cinema classics, as well as for current blockbusters, which the audience can enjoy for free: The screenings start around 9.30 p.m., admission is free. More information about programme details and projections are available on the website of the Diekirch tourism office (Syndicat d'initiative).

In the South of the country

The National Audiovisual Centre (Centre national de l'audiovisuel, CNA), located in Dudelange, already invites to its outdoor movie nights for the 9th time. From 21 to 23 July 2016, the 250 to 300 chairs installed on the forecourt of the CNA will be ready to welcome you to three evenings full of laughter, thrills and happiness. The opening screening will be Frank Capra's classic movie It Happened One Night. On Friday 22 July, it is the turn of Ice Age 5, ultimate instalment in the cult animated movie series, and on Satuday 23 July, Independence Day is screened.

A programme for all tastes awaits you. Snacks are available on site. Tickets cost at 7 euros, respectively 5 euro at a discount, and are available in advance at the reception of the CNA and on its website.
